My name is Katherine, and I am a biologist and an artist.  These are things that do not often go together. But they are both important because they serve different purposes. I study science because it helps me understand how the world works, physically. 

I create and enjoy art because I think that it is Beautiful, and that Beauty transcends nature and tell us something about the world that science never could. Beauty, unlike the natural world,  can never be quantified. Art reveals the world's soul.

There is goodness in beauty. We live in a world that constantly reminds us that bad things happen, and that they happen frequently.  When we choose to expose ourselves to beauty in any setting, including art, we are reminded that there is indeed still Good in this world. This is why I like art, and this is why I make art.
